How to sell shares in Material format without demat account?

My Father is having some shares which he had brought long back. He is not having any demat account. should he open a demat account for selling those shares or is there any other way to sell them off? Can I sell them off on behalf of my father? I have a demat account from ICICI.

For materialization of physical shares,you must convert those into demat form and so you have to have a demat acct in share-holder's name.Nobody could represent the share-holder.Your father should open a demat acct in order to materialize or sell all physical shares.
