I already have comcast internet and I want to hook my laptop up to it, I don't want to get wireless, I literally just want to be able to unplug my PC and hook my laptop up to the modem every so often (I barely use my laptop, but do need it to go online occasionally) I keep getting a message that I need to add the IP address, is it possible to add another IP or do they make you pay for each additional computer you have listed on the account?
How do I add my laptop onto my comcast account?
You dont need to add anything. Just plug it in. If you still use the other pc, get a cheap router.
Reply:Sure you can plug in your laptop directly to the cable modem. Now the trick is the cable modem will latch onto the mac address of what ever device you last connected it. So what you need to do is simple, just do the following:
1.) unplug the modem
2.) plug in the new device (latop or desktop)
3.) plug in the modem
4.) wait for the lights on the modem to come back on
5.) turn on the device, and your back in action.
In most areas Comcast does offer a Home Networking package as well. If your local Comcast offers it, they will even set it up for you at your house so you can access the internet wirelessly on your laptop.

Hello!
ReplyDeleteThe steps above are correct. If you are going to go back and forth between desk top and laptop, you will need to powercycle the modem every time you make the change. If you are interested in getting a router from us, so that you can have both connected simultaneously (or if you have other questions), you can contact us at the address below. We'd be happy to help.
