I'm planning on buying this game for the PC soon, but I wanna know if I have to pay for STEAM to play it. Well, do I? Is it possible to play without going through the whole STEAM process?

You don't have to pay for Steam. Steam is free. Let me guess, you're on XBox Live and expect every game company to try and screw you over?
Steam started out rough, but now it's awesome. Once you register your game on it, you don't even need the DVDs anymore. Your games are always tied to your account and you can just re-download them if you need to.
