Can you have your pay deposited into your spouses account?

I was wondering if you can set up direct deposit at work with an account that is not your own, such as your spouses account instead?
Can you have your pay deposited into your spouses account?
If your name is on the account as an owner of the account OR if you are listed on the account as an authorized depositor then yes. Otherwise, no.

Banks routinely reject ACH deposits if the name on the transaction doesn't closely match one of the names on the account. Minor misspellings, missing initials, or missing prefixes (Dr, Rev, etc.) or suffixes (Jr, Sr, etc.) are not a problem but if the only name on the account is "John Smith" then a payment for "Mary Smith" will be rejected.

The "Bank Teller" is wrong. I work in the industry, in the back-office area that processes electronic deposits and payments. If the names don't match, the ACH is rejected. We kick back dozens every day and have many kicked back to us for "Name Not on Account."
Reply:It depends on the company he works for...the bank won't care, it's all ones and zeros to them. Remember if your name is not on the account you will not have access to the money at all, even tho it is your money. This means if you break up with your spouse and all the money is in his account, you will have access to none of it, and because you allowed it to go into his account you have no claim on it either.
Reply:Yes. When my fiance and I first moved in together, before I had a chance to close my account and go joint on his, I switched my DD to his account. It would probably be better if you were joint on this account, though, so that you'd have access to the money. If all of your money is in one place and something happens to him, there's going to be a delay there before you can get to it if you're not already on the account.
Reply:My husband just got a new job and asked his employer if his pay can be direct deposited in my account instead of his and his employer said no. He said the bank account would have to have his name on it. So I think it depends on the company.
Reply:Yes, you can do it, but it will still be your own income.

Reply:As far as your work is concerned, they won't care. But check first with the bank to see if THEY will allow a deposit in the name of someone not on the account - many banks won't.
Reply:Of course. You can set it up to go to any account you wish. You can have it go into my account if you want!
