Im applying for a new credit card, a Master Card, and I want to know how do I add my 17 year old son to my account? Do I choose joint account, I am not all that sure. Also on a side note if I do add him does he get his own card? Any help would be appreciated.
How do I add my son to my credit card account?
Dont do it. You'll be back on here in six months crying because he racked up thousands of dollars on your credit card.
Teach him to pay as he goes and to stay away from credit.
Credit card companies (Banks) make all the rules and can change the rules anytime they want. Read the fine print.
Banks spend millions brainwashing people into thinking they need credit cards and a high I Love Debt score to make it in todays world. That's a load of buffalo dung.
Send him to daveramsey.com and listen to his radio show or watch him on Fox Business News Network. He has lots of great advice on money and debt.
Debt Free is definitely the way to be!
Reply:You should call the company and ask. Also, yes they will give him his own card.
Reply:If you're getting the card for son only, make sure the credit limit is not high. I have a 33 year out son who messed up is credit so we got a card for him but lowered the limit to $2000 in case he got in trouble again It only took him 5 days to reach the limit.
Reply:Your son can be added as an authorized user on your account. He can be issued a card, but would not be responsible for the bills. He is also not allowed to get information on the account, as an authorized user. Since he is 17, he is not considered to be an adult (legal age) and would not be considered as a joint user of the account.
Reply:Most applications have s box you can check that says something like "Add an additional Authorized User"
If you do not see this option, contact the company or bank
and ask them directly. Often, there is no extra charge
for this and he will get a card with his name on it.

Reply:wow thats the stupidest move anyone could make
Reply:you can put him on as an additional card holder. Yes he can get his own card, but you will be responsible for any mistakes he may make with it. It also teaches him to spend money he doesn't have.
If he needs to have a card for personal reasons he could get a visa gift card which is basically a prepaid gift card that you can use just like a visa. He should pay for it himself though.
